      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Visualizing scientific concepts leverages dual coding theory, combining images with words. Observing the cycle in action helps solidify abstract ideas about water movement and its phases.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a clear ziplock bag and permanent markers. 2. Draw the sun, clouds, and rain on one side of the bag. 3. Fill the bag with about 1/4 cup of water and seal it tightly. 4. Tape the bag to a sunny window to catch sunlight. 5. Observe the changes over the next few hours — look for droplets forming! 6. Discuss with your family how this mini model relates to nature's water cycle.
