      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using the dual coding theory, children create a visual representation of weather patterns, reinforcing learning through both verbal and visual channels. This activity promotes active engagement with the environment, helping children connect their experiences with new knowledge.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Cut a large circle from cardboard (30 cm diameter). 2. Divide the circle into 4 sections, labeling them: Sunny, Rainy, Cloudy, Windy. 3. Use a brad to attach an arrow (from a smaller cardboard piece) at the center, allowing it to spin. 4. Each day, observe the weather and spin the arrow to point to today's weather. 5. Draw a small picture or write a word in the corresponding section to document your findings. 6. After a week, compare how many days each type of weather occurred!
