1. Collect 3 different soil samples (e.g., sandy, clayey, loamy) from your garden or park. 2. Place each sample in a separate clear jar and fill with water. 3. Shake each jar and observe how the soil settles into layers. 4. Record the characteristics of each layer: color, texture, and settling rate. 5. Test how water drains through each type of soil by pouring a small amount into each jar after waiting for it to settle. 6. Discuss with your family which soil type is best for planting and why.
