1. Gather samples of sand, clay, and loamy soil (about 1 cup each). 2. Take a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 3. Layer the soil types in the bottle starting with sand, then clay, and finally loamy soil. 4. Observe and note the colors and textures of each layer. 5. Pour water gently to see how it moves through the layers. 6. Discuss with your Amma or Appa what you think each layer contributes to plant growth.
