1. Gather 5 clear containers and fill them with different soil types (topsoil, clay, sand, etc.). 2. Layer each type in one container, making a cross-section. 3. Use a small shovel or spoon to dig gently into each layer. 4. Observe the texture, color, and any living organisms. 5. Record your findings: which layer is the darkest? Which is the driest? 6. Discuss the importance of each layer with your family.
