      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Building a soil profile engages children kinesthetically, allowing them to see and categorize different soil types. This hands-on approach taps into embodied cognition, making abstract concepts like soil layers tangible through physical manipulation.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 clear plastic cups, 1 shovel, and 3 different soil samples (topsoil, clay, sand). 2. Label each cup for the soil type. 3. Layer 1 tablespoon of topsoil in the first cup. 4. Add 1 tablespoon of clay in the second cup, gently layering it on top. 5. Place 1 tablespoon of sand in the third cup, creating a distinct layer. 6. Discuss the texture, color, and characteristics of each layer with your Didi or Bhaiya.
