      The learning connection

Engaging with real-world materials allows children to visualize and physically interact with concepts of geology and agriculture. This hands-on exploration fosters curiosity and promotes embodied cognition, as they relate their findings to broader environmental concepts.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a small spade or trowel, a container, and a notepad. 2. Choose a spot in your backyard or garden to dig. 3. Carefully dig a small hole about 30 cm deep and observe the soil layers. 4. Collect samples from each layer and place them in the container. 5. Use the notepad to sketch and label each layer with its texture and color. 6. Discuss with Appa or Amma how each layer might affect plant growth.
