1. Collect a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Layer 1 cup of sand at the bottom of the bottle. 3. Add 1 cup of clay above the sand. 4. Top it with 1 cup of garden soil. 5. Pour 1 cup of water through the layers and observe what happens. 6. Discuss with your family what each layer represents and its importance to plants.
