1. Gather 3 different types of soil (garden soil, sandy soil, clay). 2. Fill a clear glass jar with a layer of garden soil at the bottom. 3. Add a layer of sandy soil and then a layer of clay on top. 4. Pour enough water to saturate the soils without overflowing. 5. Observe how the layers settle and note any changes over 10 minutes. 6. Discuss with your family what you see — which soil settled the fastest?
