      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using embodied cognition, children manipulate objects and light sources to visualize concepts. The interplay of light and shadow solidifies their understanding as they narrate stories, linking emotions to scientific principles through creativity.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Find a flashlight and a few toys or objects (like a cup, or a book). 2. In a dim room, point the flashlight at the wall to create a shadow. 3. Move the objects closer or further to see how their shadows change. 4. Arrange the shadows to tell a story or create a scene on the wall. 5. Invite a family member to guess your story based on the shadows. 6. Swap roles and let them create a shadow story for you!
