      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Utilizing embodied cognition, children physically engage with puppets and light, allowing them to grasp abstract concepts like shadow formation. This kinesthetic approach aids memory retention and understanding through active participation.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a flashlight, a white wall, and cardboard or paper for puppets. 2. Cut out animal shapes from the cardboard to create puppets. 3. Set up the flashlight facing the wall in a dark room. 4. Hold your puppet in front of the flashlight and adjust its distance to change the shadow size. 5. Experiment with different shapes and positions to see how the shadows change. 6. Share your favorite shadow story with family members using your puppets!
