Utilizing embodied cognition, this scavenger hunt allows children to physically interact with their environment. As they touch, see, smell, hear, and taste (safely!), they create sensory memories that reinforce their learning and retention of new words.
1. Create a list of 5 nature items to find, such as leaves, flowers, or rocks. 2. Take a bag or basket to collect items safely during your hunt. 3. Spend 15 minutes outdoors searching for the items on your list. 4. Use all five senses to describe each item you find — what it feels like, smells like, etc. 5. Share your findings with family members and describe the experiences. 6. Draw your favorite item and write down how it felt and looked!
