This activity illustrates the stages of the water cycle through observation. By creating a closed system, children can see how water evaporates, forms condensation, and precipitates, linking real-world processes to scientific concepts.
Engaging in a visual and hands-on demonstration of the water cycle helps solidify understanding. According to Bruner's CPA approach, children first see (concrete), then explore (pictorial), and finally understand (abstract) the concept of the water cycle.
1. Fill a clear ziplock bag with 1/4 cup of water. 2. Add a few drops of blue food coloring for visibility. 3. Seal the bag tightly and tape it to a sunny window. 4. Observe the bag over a few days as water evaporates and forms droplets. 5. Record what you see each day: where does the water go? 6. Discuss with your family: what happens to the water in nature?
