      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Building a food web requires categorizing and connecting living organisms, engaging children in embodied cognition. By physically interacting with elements from their environment, they reinforce learning through dual coding — linking visuals with concepts.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Collect leaves, twigs, and small stones from your garden or park. 2. Gather pictures or draw animals and plants (e.g., grass, rabbit, fox). 3. On a large piece of paper, place the producer (grass) at the bottom. 4. Attach consumers (rabbit) above the producer using string or glue. 5. Connect a predator (fox) above the rabbit and label each organism. 6. Discuss why each organism is essential in your food web!
