1. Collect soil samples from 3 different locations (garden, park, roadside). 2. Place each sample in a separate clear container. 3. Observe and describe the color, texture, and smell of each soil sample. 4. Add water to each container, stir, and see how it changes. 5. Identify and record any small rocks, roots, or insects found in the soil. 6. Discuss with your family why soil is vital for plants and animals.
