      The learning connection

Experiential learning through observation allows children to see the relationships in ecosystems. The dual coding theory supports understanding as they visualize and engage with live organisms, making abstract concepts tangible.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clean glass jar and add 1 cup of soil at the bottom. 2. Plant 2 small grass seeds or a small sprig of a houseplant in the soil. 3. Pour 1/2 cup of water into the jar, making sure not to over-soak the soil. 4. Place a few small pebbles on top of the soil to create a drainage layer. 5. Seal the jar with a lid or plastic wrap to create humidity. 6. Place the jar in a sunny spot and observe changes every day for 2 weeks.
