This activity allows children to explore the interdependence of living organisms. By watching how plants and water interact over time, they understand the balance necessary for life in ecosystems.
Embodied cognition comes into play as children physically create and maintain their ecosystem. This tactile experience enhances retention, making abstract concepts like interdependence and habitat more tangible and memorable.
1. Take a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Fill the bottom half with 3 cm of soil. 3. Plant small seeds (like mustard or coriander) in the soil. 4. Add small pebbles on top for drainage and moisture. 5. Water the soil gently and place the top half back on. 6. Observe daily for changes in the plants and water cycle inside the bottle.
