      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Utilizing Vygotsky's scaffolding, children engage with real-life ecosystems, allowing them to grasp complex interdependencies. Observing changes over time fosters curiosity and deeper understanding, as they connect concepts to tangible experiences.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Get a clear glass jar with a lid. 2. Layer 2 cm of small stones at the bottom for drainage. 3. Add a 2 cm layer of activated charcoal. 4. Place a layer of potting soil (about 5 cm). 5. Plant small plants or grass seeds into the soil and lightly water. 6. Cover the jar with the lid and observe your ecosystem over weeks.
