Utilizing embodied cognition, this hands-on experiment allows children to see and manipulate liquids, helping them connect scientific concepts to physical phenomena. By layering the liquids, they directly engage with the idea that not all liquids are the same weight, enhancing their understanding of density.
1. Gather 1 cup of honey, 1 cup of dish soap, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of oil. 2. In a clear jar, carefully pour the honey first, letting it settle at the bottom. 3. Slowly pour the dish soap over the back of a spoon to avoid mixing. 4. Next, gently add the colored water using the same spoon method. 5. Finally, add the oil on top using the spoon again. 6. Observe the layers and make notes about which liquid sits where.
