This activity teaches children about light direction and how shadows are formed. By manipulating objects and light sources, they grasp the concept of light properties and shadow creation visually and tangibly.
Using embodied cognition, children learn through direct interaction with light and objects. Making shadows helps them visualize and understand abstract concepts, reinforcing their comprehension of how light behaves in different scenarios.
1. Gather a flashlight and a few simple objects (toys or cut-out shapes). 2. Dim the lights in a room or go outside in the evening. 3. Hold the flashlight steady and point it at the wall. 4. Place an object in between the flashlight and the wall to create a shadow. 5. Experiment by moving the object closer or further away to see how the shadow changes. 6. Create a short shadow play with your puppets and share it with your family!
