      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with nature promotes embodied cognition, allowing kids to visualize and experience the growth process. Observing changes over time provides a powerful context for understanding biological concepts like germination and growth stages.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather five seeds (like mung beans) and a small pot. 2. Fill the pot with soil, leaving 2 cm from the top. 3. Plant the seeds 2 cm apart and cover them with a thin layer of soil. 4. Water the soil gently until it is moist, but not soggy. 5. Place the pot in a sunny spot and water it every two days. 6. Observe and record any changes in the seeds' appearance over the next week.
