This activity demonstrates the principles of electrostatics as children explore how charged objects can attract or repel each other. They will learn the scientific terms of static electricity through hands-on experience.
By physically interacting with objects and observing their behavior when charged, children engage in embodied cognition. This allows them to internalize complex concepts like attraction and repulsion through real-time feedback.
1. Inflate a balloon and tie it securely. 2. Rub the balloon on your hair for 30 seconds to charge it. 3. Hold the charged balloon near small pieces of paper (or confetti). 4. Watch how the paper jumps towards the balloon! 5. Try moving the balloon closer and further. What happens? 6. Experiment with different objects like a wall or another balloon — what do you notice?
