      1. Gather a plastic bottle, scissors, and a cup for collecting filtered water. 2. Cut the bottom off the plastic bottle and turn it upside down. 3. Layer the bottle with cotton, sand, and gravel in that order. 4. Pour muddy water into the top of the filter. 5. Collect the clean water that drips into the cup below. 6. Observe and compare the differences between before and after filtering.
