What you need
- A sewing needle
- A small piece of cork
- A bowl of water
- A bar magnet
- A pair of pliers (optional)
How the activity runs
- Gather a needle, a cork, a bowl of water, and a magnet.
- Magnetize the needle by rubbing it with the magnet 30 times.
- Push the needle through the cork gently without breaking it.
- Fill the bowl with water and float the cork with the needle on top.
- Observe the needle pointing towards the magnetic north.
