      Why It Works

      The learning connection

This activity utilizes Bruner's CPA approach by encouraging children to first manipulate a real plant, then categorize its parts visually, and finally articulate their functions. Engaging with physical objects helps solidify concepts in their memory through embodied cognition.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a potted plant (like a spider plant) from home. 2. Carefully remove the plant from the pot and shake off the soil. 3. Identify and separate the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers. 4. Observe each part: what do they look like and how do they feel? 5. Draw each part in your notebook and label them. 6. Discuss with your family how each part helps the plant survive.
