      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By physically interacting with soil layers, children engage in embodied cognition, which enhances retention of complex scientific concepts. As they dig and observe, they experience the relationship between soil types and plant growth, making abstract ideas tangible.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 small containers and label them: topsoil, subsoil, clay, sand, and gravel. 2. Collect soil samples from different areas of your garden or a park. 3.
