Try it with your learner
1. Gather materials: a clear plastic container, soil, sand, gravel, and small stones. 2. Start by adding 2 cm of gravel at the bottom of the container. 3. Layer 2 cm of sand on top of the gravel. 4. Add 5 cm of soil on top of the sand. 5. Use a stick to poke holes in the layers and observe how water drains. 6. Discuss with a partner how each layer helps support different plants.
