      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with a tangible ecosystem fosters embodied cognition, as children physically see and touch each component. Observing changes over time enhances retention and curiosity about ecological relationships, aligning with Vygotsky's scaffolding principles.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clean glass jar with a lid and add 1 cup of soil. 2. Plant small seeds (like mustard or bean) into the soil. 3. Add a thin layer of small pebbles on top. 4. Pour a little water into the jar until the soil is moist but not soggy. 5. Close the jar and place it in indirect sunlight. 6. Observe daily for growth and condensation on the jar walls — what do you notice?
