      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition principles suggest that physical interaction with materials enhances learning. By creating a model, children grasp spatial relationships and planetary order through hands-on engagement, making the vastness of space more relatable.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a cardboard box, colored paper, scissors, and a glue stick. 2. Cut out circles from the colored paper representing each planet; size them according to their relative sizes. 3. Glue the planets in order on the box lid, using strings to hang them for distance. 4. Label each planet clearly with its name. 5. Create a sun using yellow paper and place it in the center. 6. Discuss with your family how far each planet is from the sun!
