1. Gather 10 balls of different sizes to represent planets (like marbles for Mercury, a tennis ball for Earth). 2. Use a long string or tape measure to represent distances. Scale down to 1 meter = 10 million km. 3. Place the Sun (a large ball) at one end of your space. 4. Measure and mark distances for each planet according to the scale. 5. Position each planet ball at its designated distance from the Sun. 6. Discuss with a partner how far apart the planets are — what surprised you?
