Building a miniature ecosystem allows children to visualize and engage with complex ecological concepts. By observing changes over time, they experience the principles of observation and inquiry, enhancing their critical thinking skills.
1. Gather a clear jar with a lid, soil, small plants, and small insects like ants. 2. Layer soil at the bottom of the jar, about 5 cm deep. 3. Plant small plants in the soil, making sure they have enough space. 4. Carefully add a few ants or small insects to the jar. 5. Close the lid to create a closed environment. 6. Place the jar in a sunny spot and observe changes over the next week — what do you notice?
