By physically manipulating materials to create planets, students engage in embodied cognition. This kinesthetic experience solidifies abstract concepts, making them tangible and memorable.
1. Gather materials: a large ball for the Sun, smaller balls for planets, and colored paper. 2. Paint or cover the smaller balls to represent each planet. 3. Arrange the balls on a table in order from the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. 4. Measure the distance between each planet using a string or tape to show scale. 5. Label each planet with its name and any fun facts. 6. Share your solar system model with family — what did you learn about the planets?
