1. Gather a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Collect soil samples from your garden or different outdoor spots (2-3 types). 3. Layer the different soils in the plastic bottle, starting with gravel, then sand, clay, and finally topsoil. 4. Observe and note the different textures and colors of each layer. 5. Use a piece of paper to label each soil type you've added. 6. Share your findings with a family member — which soil do plants grow best in?
