Engaging in building a tangible ecosystem taps into embodied cognition, allowing children to physically manipulate materials and witness real-time changes. This hands-on experience reinforces their understanding of ecosystems as they see how plants, soil, and water interact to sustain life.
1. Gather a clear jar, pebbles, potting soil, small plants, and water. 2. Pour 2 cm of pebbles at the bottom of the jar for drainage. 3. Add 5 cm of potting soil on top of the pebbles. 4. Plant small plants or grass into the soil, leaving space between them. 5. Water the plants gently until the soil is moist but not soaked. 6. Seal the jar with a lid and place it in indirect sunlight. Observe over the next week.
