      Why It Works

      The learning connection

According to Vygotsky's scaffolding, children learn more effectively when they can see the immediate results of their observations. By actively participating in weather tracking, they develop analytical skills while engaging in authentic scientific exploration.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a plastic bottle, piece of paper, pencil, and a ruler. 2. Cut the plastic bottle in half and use the bottom part as a rain gauge. 3. Place the rain gauge outside to capture rain. 4. Measure the water collected after it rains. 5. Write down the temperature using a thermometer if you have one. 6. Repeat this for a week and see how the weather changes day by day!
