      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition emphasizes learning through physical involvement in activities. By setting up their ecosystem, children engage their senses and deepen their understanding of ecosystems as they observe changes over time.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a clear plastic container with a lid (like a jar or bottle). 2. Add a layer of small pebbles (about 1 cm deep) for drainage. 3. Add a layer of activated charcoal (1 cm deep) to filter the water. 4. Fill the container with soil (5 cm deep) and plant small seeds (like mustard or fenugreek) in it. 5. Add a small amount of water to moisten the soil, then close the lid. 6. Place the container in a sunny spot and observe changes over the next week.
