      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with tangible elements of nature leverages embodied cognition, allowing children to physically observe ecological relationships. As they nurture their ecosystem, they also develop responsibility and a deeper appreciation for biodiversity.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clean plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Fill the bottom half with small pebbles for drainage. 3. Add a layer of activated charcoal to filter water and odors. 4. Place a layer of potting soil on top, about 5 cm deep. 5. Plant small seeds (like mung beans) in the soil and water lightly. 6. Cover the top half of the bottle as a lid and place it in sunlight. Observe changes daily!
