      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Children grasp ecological relationships through direct observation. This hands-on experience allows them to connect concepts of producers, consumers, and decomposers, leveraging Vygotsky's scaffolding by building knowledge through exploration.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a clear bottle, soil, small pebbles, and a few plants (like grass or small ferns). 2. Pour a layer of pebbles at the bottom of the bottle for drainage. 3. Add a layer of soil, about 2-3 cm thick. 4. Plant the small plants into the soil and pat it down gently. 5. Water the plants lightly until the soil is moist but not soggy. 6. Seal the bottle with a lid and place it in a bright spot — observe daily!
