What this lesson teaches

This activity helps children differentiate between short-term weather patterns and long-term climate trends. By visualizing data, they learn to recognize how daily weather reflects broader climate concepts.

      Why It Works

      The learning connection

The dual coding theory supports learning through both visual and verbal channels. When children create a chart, they actively engage with the information, solidifying their understanding of abstract concepts.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 7 colored markers and a blank chart paper. 2. Draw a large vertical line for 'Weather' and another for 'Climate'. 3. List weather conditions (sunny, rainy) for each day of the week in the Weather column. 4. Research and write down the average climate for your city (hot, humid) in the Climate column. 5. Use colors to connect weather patterns to the climate type. 6. Discuss with Amma or Appa how weather can change daily but climate stays the same.
