      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition is at play here as children actively engage in the planting process, linking their actions to the growth of seeds. This direct involvement reinforces learning and retention, as they witness the transformation from seed to sprout.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 small seeds (like mustard or sunflower) and a small pot. 2. Fill the pot with soil, leaving some space at the top. 3. Plant the seeds about 1 inch apart in the soil. 4. Water the seeds gently — not too much! 5. Place the pot in a sunny spot and check daily. 6. Record your observations on day 1, 3, and 7 — what do you see?
