Children learn about food chains by physically arranging items that represent producers, consumers, and decomposers. This activity helps them visualize relationships in ecosystems, understanding how energy flows from one organism to another.

1. Collect 5 small items: a leaf (producer), a piece of fruit (primary consumer), a toy insect (secondary consumer), a toy frog (tertiary consumer), and a little box for decomposers. 2. Spread the items on a flat surface. 3. Arrange them in a chain: leaf → fruit → insect → frog. 4. Discuss who eats whom and why. 5. Place bits of paper in the box for decomposers (like fungi). 6. Share your chain design and explain it to your family.
