      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition plays a key role as children interact with physical materials, making abstract ecological concepts tangible. Observing changes in their ecosystem helps reinforce learning through real-life examples and fosters curiosity about environmental science.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take an empty glass jar with a lid. 2. Add 1 cup of small pebbles at the bottom for drainage. 3. Layer in 2 cups of soil on top of the pebbles. 4. Plant 2 small seeds (like mustard) in the soil. 5. Water the soil lightly and close the jar with the lid. 6. Place the jar in indirect sunlight and observe daily for a week.
