      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with nature through observation and care fosters an emotional connection to plants. This embodied cognition experience reinforces learning as children witness the physical changes over time, deepening their understanding of biological processes.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 small seeds (like lentils) and a small pot with soil. 2. Fill the pot with soil, leaving some space at the top. 3. Plant 1 seed about an inch deep in the soil. 4. Water the soil gently until it's moist but not soggy. 5. Place the pot in a sunny spot and water it every 2 days. 6. Observe daily — what changes do you see in the sprout?
