      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By engaging in building and racing, children utilize embodied cognition to physically grasp energy concepts. This activity embodies Bruner's CPA approach, moving from concrete creation to abstract understanding of energy forms.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a paper cup, a straw, and 2 paper clips. 2. Use scissors to cut the cup into a wind turbine shape. 3. Push the straw through the bottom of the cup, securing it with a paper clip. 4. Place your turbine outside where the wind blows. 5. Race your turbine against another energy source like a rolling ball. 6. Discuss which source moved faster and why.
