This activity teaches children about seed dispersal and plant growth. By making seed bombs, they engage in a hands-on way to understand how plants spread and thrive in different environments.
Crafting seed bombs incorporates embodied cognition, allowing kids to physically interact with materials. This active engagement enhances memory retention as they practice the cycle of growth from seeds to plants, linking concepts to tangible actions.
1. Gather 1 cup of clay, 1 cup of compost, and 1 cup of wildflower seeds. 2. Mix the clay and compost together in a bowl until combined. 3. Add the seeds into the mixture and stir gently to avoid damaging them. 4. Shape the mixture into small balls (about the size of a marble). 5. Let the seed bombs dry for 24 hours. 6. Choose a spot in your neighborhood to toss your seed bombs and observe their growth over time.
