This activity demonstrates the interdependence of plants, soil, and water in an ecosystem. By nurturing their mini garden, children learn about the roles of each component in sustaining life.
Engaging in gardening connects children with nature, embodying concepts of ecosystems through hands-on experience. This aligns with Bruner's CPA approach, where they can act (create), perceive (observe growth), and articulate (discuss observations) their understanding.
1. Gather a shallow container, soil, small seeds (like beans), and water. 2. Fill the container with soil up to 3/4 full. 3. Plant a few seeds in the soil, spacing them out. 4. Water the seeds gently until the soil is moist. 5. Place the container in a sunny spot and observe daily. 6. Record your observations in a notebook each week about growth!
