      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By constructing their own ecosystem, children engage in embodied cognition as they physically interact with the components. This hands-on experience connects them emotionally to the concept of ecosystems, reinforcing their learning through visualization and direct engagement.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Fill the bottom half with soil (about 5 cm). 3. Plant small seeds (like mustard or coriander) in the soil. 4. Add small pebbles for drainage on top of the soil. 5. Place the top half upside down over the bottom half to create a closed environment. 6. Observe your ecosystem over the next week and note any changes.
