1. Gather an empty plastic bottle, scissors, coffee filter, sand, gravel, and dirty water. 2. Cut the bottom off the plastic bottle to create a funnel. 3. Place the coffee filter inside the neck of the bottle to hold the materials. 4. Layer the sand and gravel on top of the coffee filter. 5. Slowly pour dirty water into the filter and observe. 6. Collect the filtered water in a clean container — how does it look?
