      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a plastic bottle, scissors, sand, gravel, and a coffee filter. 2. Cut the bottom off the plastic bottle to create a funnel shape. 3. Layer the coffee filter at the neck of the bottle to prevent materials from escaping. 4. Add a layer of gravel, then sand on top of the coffee filter. 5. Pour dirty water into the funnel and collect the filtered water in a clean container below. 6. Observe changes in water clarity and discuss the effectiveness of your filter.
