1. Gather a plastic bottle, cotton, sand, and gravel. 2. Cut the bottom off the plastic bottle and place it upside down. 3. Layer the materials: start with the cotton, then sand, and finally gravel. 4. Pour dirty water slowly into the top of the filter. 5. Collect the filtered water in a clean container. 6. Compare the clarity of the filtered water to the original — what do you notice?
